Neck and back pain physical therapy in Norwood and Norfolk

Neck and back pain are among the most common causes of disability, but the source is different for every person. Symptoms may come from joints, discs, nerves, muscles, posture or the way the body handles load.

We look beyond the painful spot to understand the complete pattern, then build a plan that restores motion, strength and tolerance for the activities you need.

We provide neck and back pain treatment at both PT&SR clinics, in Norwood and Norfolk, MA, and you work with the same physical therapist at every visit.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a doctor's referral for neck or back pain physical therapy in Massachusetts?

No. Massachusetts allows direct access to Doctors of Physical Therapy, so you can schedule an evaluation at our Norwood or Norfolk clinic without a referral. Some insurance plans still ask for one. If yours does, our team can help coordinate it. Just call us at (781) 769-2040.

Can physical therapy help sciatica or a herniated disc?

Often, yes. Many people with sciatica or a disc problem are treated with physical therapy first. Computerized Decompression Traction is often very effective at reducing symptoms of numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness radiating down your arm or leg. Your therapist looks at what's causing the symptoms and builds a plan of care that incorporates hands-on care and exercise. If anything in your evaluation points to a need for other care, we tell you and your doctor.

When should neck or back pain be checked by a doctor right away?

Get medical care right away for back or neck pain after a serious fall or accident, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin area, weakness that is getting worse, or pain with fever or unexplained weight loss. Physical therapy is the right place for most other neck and back pain.

What happens at my first visit?

Your first visit is a one-on-one evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We will ask you a series of questions, including what is most important to you in getting back to the things you enjoy. We'll put together a plan of care that you understand, so you can have clarity and confidence throughout your treatment with us. We will also ask what happened, check how your neck or back moves, and explain your treatment plan. Bring any imaging reports you have.
