Graston / IASTM

Graston / IASTM

Instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization used to address restricted tissue, pain and movement limitations.

The simple answer

What is it?

Graston is a form of manual therapy that uses specialized instruments to gently massage and glide over the skin. It helps your therapist find and treat scar tissue and soft-tissue restrictions that can limit motion or cause pain.

What conditions can be treated?

  • Scar tissue after injury or surgery
  • Muscle and soft-tissue restrictions
  • Loss of motion linked to tight or restricted tissue
  • Persistent tendon and overuse pain
  • Soft-tissue injuries that have been slow to improve

Is it painful?

It may cause minor discomfort, tenderness or some bruising after treatment. Your therapist controls the pressure and adjusts it to your tolerance.

What to expect

Thoughtful care, explained before it begins.

Your therapist starts with a full evaluation. If this treatment is appropriate, we explain what it is intended to address, how it should feel and how it supports the active work in your plan.

Response is monitored from visit to visit. The treatment is adjusted or discontinued when another approach better serves your goals.

Common questions

Know before your visit.

Is this a stand-alone treatment?

No. PT&SR uses specialized techniques as part of a complete one-on-one plan that may include hands-on care, exercise, education and home guidance.

How do I know whether it is right for me?

Your therapist reviews your health history, symptoms and examination findings. Recommendations are personalized, and you can ask questions or decline any technique.

How many visits will I need?

That depends on your condition, goals and response. We set clear milestones, review progress regularly and explain changes to the plan.
